Judge Frank Jones was born and raised in Wilmington. Growing up here gave him a deep appreciation for history, tradition, the outdoors, and the value of a close community. He learned early that character is shaped by the people around you: parents, teachers, coaches, church members, neighbors, friends, and the adults who expect you to work hard and do right.

Those lessons stayed with him.

His path to the law began in college, when a Business Law professor introduced him to the practical problem-solving, communication, and discipline that the legal profession requires. After earning his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Frank returned to the courtroom and built a 33-year career as a trial attorney before being elected Superior Court Judge in 2018.

Judge Jones’s background is not limited to courtrooms and law books. Early work experiences, athletics, family, and community gave him the ability to relate to people from many different walks of life. He has often said that being a lawyer was what he did, not the whole of who he was.

Outside of his professional life, Judge Jones is most proud of being a husband, father, and grandfather. He understands that every person who comes before the court has a story, a family, and a stake in what happens next.
